ZOEVA Haul

The fact that I’m a student and can still ‘afford’ to splash out on a little BeautyBay haul every now and again amazes even me. To be fair, I have lived on beans on toast for a couple of days so I could treat myself, but no matter; it was worth it! I’ve got a vegan brush collection by ZOEVA already, so I’m quite familiar with their brand. However, they began a cosmetics range too which I was desperate to try. I chose a few items so I could treat myself to a little haul. This is what I picked up!

ZOEVA Naturally Yours Eyeshadow Palette | £15.95 | Link
This eyeshadow palette immediately caught my eye. I’m always on the hunt for nudes, neutrals and basics because they’re what I wear mostly. As well as this, it’s currently my favourite season ever; autumn, and so the colours in this palette seemed to be beautiful bronzes and browns which work so well during this time of year. Of the reviews I read, this seemed to be their most popular palette, and many of the blogs I read seemed to love it. At £15.95, it’s middle-of-the-road price wise, and looks like a worthy investment.

ZOEVA Cat Eye Pen | £5.50 | Link
It’s unusual for a day to go by where I don’t rock a cat flick. Winged liner is an absolute must, so when I saw this pen on the BeautyBay website I couldn’t wait to try it. I’m coming to the end of my Soap & Glory Supercat eyeliner, and even though I love it, I wanted to try something different this time. The pen looks extremely fine and pointy, so I can’t wait to see how I get on with this little beauty.

ZOEVA Luxe Colour Blush in Shy Beauty | £6.95 | Link
This is a product I first saw on Beth’s Blog Birds Words (Link) and what initially triggered my desire to try out Zoeva’s beauty range. It’s described as a universal shade, and is actually really pretty. It’s a pale, understated peachy coral, and I’ve got a feeling I’m going to love it for A/W this year. Again, it’s had a load of great reviews and wasn’t offensively expensive!

Do look out for full reviews on all of these products after I’ve had a chance to try them out! Have you tried any of ZOEVA’s makeup range? Let me know in the comments!

My Life | October

October is one of my favourite months; I love the cold change and it means you get to get out and explore new activities that you’re not able to enjoy in the same way over summer. I’ve been at university this month, and have finally started to get into the swing of it and settling in with my new flatmates. I’ve also been able to see a lot more of Chris. He lives in London still, but instead of a 6 hour journey, it’s only a 3 hour journey now! We’ve spent most weekends together and have done some really cool things exploring our new areas and meeting new people.
Chris gave me a Promise Ring the week he started university. Not in the Christian way you see from the Jonas Brothers, but it’s to symbolise our commitment and our promise that we’re going to make it through whatever our new lives throw at us. It’s in the style of a loose knot, so it signifies our intention of ‘tying the knot’ at some point. It’s the most romantic thing anyone’s ever done for me, and I’m so happy. I just can’t wait for us to move in at the end of this academic year!
I went back to Devon for a few days to visit family and friends. I spent a good portion of it completely drunk and had such a lovely time filling in my friends about Bristol and hearing about what they’d been up to. I met up with my best friend Tara who has three pugs (!!!!!!), so we walked them for an hour along the beach and then settled down on the sofa with a couple of vodka and cokes while absolutely buried in pugs!
When visiting Chris in London one weekend, we went to Rough Trade in Shoreditch which was one of the places we went to the first time I went up to see him. We got pictures taken in the Rough Trade photobooth (photobooths are one of our little traditions), and had a bit of lunch, then explored the vintage markets. I absolutely adore London. I feel as though I fit in there and spending the days having adventures with my partner is the best way I can think of to spend a day.

What was your favourite thing that you did in October? Let me know in the comments!

Benefit Skincare

Skincare is one of my greatest loves in this world, whether it be slathering clay face masks on or rubbing spot serums into my chin, you name it; I probably love it. I do tend to purchase different items whenever I hit the end of a bottle rather than repurchase products, just because there’s so many skincare products to try! I recently gave Benefit’s Skincare a whirl. I don’t usually go for makeup brand’s skincare ranges; I’m inclined to think that they should stick to what they know in the cosmetics department and leave the specialist cleansing/moisturising/toning to the experts. However, I have heard good things about the Benefit Skincare range and my Mum put her trip round duty free to brilliant use and picked me up the Makeup Remover and Triple Performing Facial Emulsion! Here’s what I thought…

Remove It Makeup Remover
It took me a good five minutes to stop shrieking at the beautiful bottles before I tested it out. It is basically a micellar water, and Benefit’s Makeup Remover is a pretty nice addition to my cleansing collection. It smells pretty good; nothing too offensive or over-fragranced, and it’s a clear solution made to look turquoise by the beautiful bottle. There’s something very Alice In Wonderland-y about these bottles, and I just adore them. As a makeup remover, it does its job. It removes my foundation quite well, and smudges my eye makeup around to make it easier to clean when I wash my face afterwards. At £16.50, it is on the steep side, especially considering you can get just as good a micellar water by Garnier for about £5. As well as this, it did sting my eyes a little bit, but it was nothing too terrible to worry about and I don’t seem to have lost my vision thus far. However, I do enjoy using it and I feel very luxurious when I crack open the very pretty bottle. I’d give it a 7/10 overall!

Triple Performing Facial Emulsion SPF 15
Many of you who read my blog regularly will know that moisturisers and I are simply not friends. I have very oily skin, especially on my forehead and around my nose, and don’t even get me started on my chin! I always find with moisturisers that I feel like I’ve overdone it a little; it feels thick on my face and ends up making me feel greasy and slimy for hours. Having said this, I do actually have space in my cleansing schedule for this moisturiser by Benefit. It’s lighter than a traditional moisturiser (they call it an ‘emulsion’) and it’s oil free. It is SPF15, and so I took it on holiday to Italy with me because as I was backpacking and wasn’t wearing makeup. I really liked it for that! Especially when it came to giving my skin a little TLC after baking out in the sun all day. I do still use this, though I shudder to think it cost £22.50. It’s really and truly the only moisturiser/emulsion I’ve ever gotten along with, and although I only really reach for it in my normal day-to-day life if I’ve given my skin an extra rigorous clean, I do really like it. Again, the packaging is just dreamy!
